MODEL MAKING
Laser cutting
I decided to make a second model for the Degree Show which displays the Reception/Bar area of OHM Co-Workspace.
CHECK OUT THE DESIGN PROJECT
Starting...
As my first model was made out of cardboard, I decided to make another one which is having a more better quality and out of an osb panel. The fun thing is that I wanted to save time when I chose to make the first model from cardboard. Being aware the fact that it took me five fully days to make it, I can't say it was a time saver solution.
In the new model, I wanted to focus to show a particular area of my building - the Reception/Bar area. I think it's one of the best functional area of the workspace, and the 'Welcome Board & Cafe Menu' Boards represents well the branding too.
I started the process with the furniture drawing in AutoCad. Drawing the different elements was really easy, however the logo was a bit challenging. I also included several details, such as the shelves and drawers. At the end, I coloured the lines regarding their depths in the laser cutting. For instance, I wanted to highlight the logo 'Ohm' and the main titles such as 'Welcome' & 'Menu', so these elements were deep. The overall drawing took me 3 hours.

MAGIC!
The laser cutter is a great machine :)
Finishing...
It was like a magic to see the model's cut outs what I drew just a few hours before the laser cutting. The quality was great. Then, just one more thing left, gluing the elements together.

The overall model making took me around 6 hours. I wanted to spend more time on it, but it was really in the last minute (made it on the same day when the degree show was) so I had to rush. Though, I am quite satisfied with the result and luckily, my tutors were really like it too!
This made me realise that next time I will think twice before I start making a model from cardboard. I made this model in a few hours with a better quality and details then the cardboard model in five days! What a pity! But I learnt the lesson, and it's better late then never, right? :)
