As I mentioned in my journal, I have been asked to redesign a family home in Hungary. This is a huge honor to me that someone believes my talent and trusts my design decisions - especially that I am only on my 2nd year. :)

First, I asked the gentleman (Andras) to send lots of photographs of the house so I could start thinking before the actual meeting with them. The house is well designed, they have very spacious spaces but they had lots of old furnitures and lumber which made the overall look a bit messy.

I analyzed all rooms and I arranged a meeting with the family as I traveled to Hungary the following week.

I wanted to take this opportunity very seriously and I prepared myself as much as I could. I researched some design studio's offers and time schedules. I wrote my questions as well.

The family is really nice, we had a great talk together. They have two daughter, a 2 years old and a 13 years old girl. They both have a nice spacious room.

I started the design with Fanni's room who is the older girl. She wanted to play around purple and its shades. She likes wood as a material but also opens for other opportunities. She will have a new bigger bed and cabinets. After I had my instructions I designed this for her:

As we can see on the pictures above, her current room has very different furnitures which aren't much together. She also has a gym equipment wich wasn't in the right place in the room.

I have left her original corner study desk and chair; the floor lamp; and the parquette.

Additional design requirements: Flower Wallpaper for the bed's wall; dark purple wallpaper for other walls; purple curtains; mirror; new bed; flowers; new ceiling lamp and spotlights; built-in cabinet and a bookshelf. Additional but not neccessary is the armchair.

FEEDBACK: The family were very satisfied, Fanni really loves the new look of her room. They said I am really talented and they can't wait the other design ideas.

I had a very clear opinion what they want in the living room and dinind room area. Andras prefers the natural materials, especially wood. He also likes a modern ceiling with spotlights.

First idea is a modern brown and green combination. I will try another version which will be classical style.

The living room will look very different in this design. The most important change is the additional wall which seperate the gym equipment from the living area. This gives a much better atmosphere for the room and the runner can get a privacy during the exercise. I also designed a forest-wallpaper to this area so the runner can get a feeling of running in a forest.

I have designed a built-in tv above the fireplace and a collection of shelves. There will be wallpaper which shows the natural wood effect on the walls. Curtains are in green and a geometric figured rug on the parquette floor. There is a white corner sofa and a white-wood coffee table.

Second version of Living room

I have received the couple feedback which was very satisfying again but they forgot to mention that the running machine won't be in the living room anymore. I was happy for this, as the living room size is quite small so I have more space to design.

In my new plan, I stayed with the naturalistic materials. I had some ideas where I tried different materials and I changed the green to turquoise:

My favourite is the wood which has an advantage in "making" bigger the living room with its horizontal lines:

I like the warm atmosphere of this wood walls combined with the turqiuse curtains. :)

I think this updated version of the room is definetely better!

TO BE CUNTINUED...
