"Sofa Workshop are looking to commission an interior design student at Salford University to create the 'Ultimate Mancunian Sofa'. The process will consist of two phases: 1) Students will sketch their 'ultimate Mancunian sofa', whether that is based around Oasis, Hacienda, bad weather, or whatever else remind them of Manchester. Sofa workshop will then go on to pick a winning design and provide a sofa (worth well over £500) plus some materials for the winning student to actually create the sofa. Deadline for this phase would be Friday 27 November 2) The winning design would be announced w/c 30 November and the sofa will be provided immediately. The student would then have until January 8 to create the sofa, which would be displayed for a limited time only somewhere in the city."

First, I was thinking of in what purpose I want to design a Mancunian Sofa. I was thinking of Media City modern and sleek area and the Town Hall's Victorian style.

Then I looked some inspiration:

I really like this sofa design, it's really modern and unique.

Ideas based on inspiration from the sofa above, which would represent the modern style of Media City Manchester. Modern, curvy shapes and a built-in shelf:

Another inspiration was from this sofa design:

I like this unusual design of the sofa.

Quick ideas which would reflects to the high and modern buildings in Media City Manchester:

Inspiration from this beautiful and colourful sofa:

I like this curvy design style, it's really elegant but the colours make it much leisurely and comfort.

Ideas which would represent a sleek, elegant and beatiful design of a Mancunian Sofa:

In this design I kept the original idea of having an uphill of the backrest. It makes the sofa unique and special.
